Oelwein Municipal Urban Trail System

Segment 1 Updates

Oelwein Municipal Urban Trail System

  • Park and Rec Commission approval of trail segment 1
  • Council Approval of Segment 1 
  • Award bid contract to Bacon Construction 
  • Select trees taken down on City property to comply with the long-eared bat rule by March 31

                 USFWS: Northern Long-eared Bat 4(d) Rule 

  • Trees will be removed when contractor returns late April
  • Trail construction continues through 2021 season

 The trail system currently offers 4.2 miles of walking/biking trails throughout the city. Starting at the Oelwein Family Aquatic Center, the trail winds south through Reidy Park and past Platt Park then crosses 10th Street SE. The trail then traverses around to the exterior of the Oelwein Industrial Park before ending at the Veteran's Memorial Sports Complex. Starting in the southeast part of Redgate Park this trail winds though the wooded area of the southwest quadrant of Oelwein, before it skirts the City of Oelwein utility shops. The trail crosses 6th Ave SW and skirts the creek before ending at Levin Park.
